Manipulation/Mobilisation

At David Roberts Physiotherapy we place great emphasis on a ‘hands-on’ approach to spinal and joint problems. We also understand the need to prevent recurrence of your injury and will teach you the important correct exercises to assist with keeping you in the best health possible.

Our combined approach to treatment of injuries will often utilise mobilisation, manipulation and massage in differing amounts to achieve the desired effect. The exact approach is tailored to your specific problem.

Mobilisation

This is a manual technique performed by your Physiotherapist to treat your joints and soft tissue. This involves graded, oscillatory movements to the specific joint or region to assist restoration of your normal movement, lubricate joint surfaces, decrease your pain and reduce muscle spasm.

Manipulation

Is a short, thrust treatment performed at the end of your available range of movement. This approach is often used to break down scar tissue/adhesions, remove a blockage in the joint and to restore full joint movement. Often used following heat, massage or mobilisation in order to relax the tissues optimally prior to manipulation. Our Physiotherapy team are skilled in the performance of specific manipulative techniques as part of your treatment programme.
